Master of Photography, the highly entertaining photography talent show by Sky Arts, returns for another season of fascinating photographic skill and ability from a mixture of professional and amateur photographers.
This will be the third season of the show that sees a vibrant mixture of photographers face-off in an 8-week series of technical and creative challenges all across Europe.
If you’ve never heard of Master of Photography, then you’re in for a treat. Along with Tales by Light and Abstract, this personally ranks as one of our favourite artistic shows.
Here’s a neat summary from Sky Arts for the upcoming season:
“8 weeks, 8 different challenges in which contestants have to prove to a jury of photographers and renowned experts that they have the creativity, versatility and resilience to become the next Sky Arts Master of Photography.”
Below is the official trailer for Master of Photography season 2 that concluded earlier this year:
A bit of history
With the 8-week long contest taking place all across Europe, Master of Photography has become a highly popular show in many countries. As well as the UK and Ireland, the show also airs in Germany, Italy and Austria.
Previous judges for the show have also been a brilliant mixture, with Season 2 featuring actor Clive Owen and American photographer Steve McCurry.
Other past judges include David LaChapelle, Lucy Conticello, and Martin Parr.
Although controversy struck in the final round, with contestant Souvid Datta admitting to staging one of his final images, it was Suffolk-photographer Gillian Allard who was crowned Master of Photography and received a life-changing sum of €150,000 (£132,000).
